MALKI’s journey as an artist began as a child drawing with anything handy on any surface she could get her hands on, until she discovered the magic of drawing with a Rotring Rapidograph, a type of drafting pen. Her first medium was eggs. She drew all kinds of creatures and scenes on them and struggled to find ways to get the yolk out without cracking the delicate shell, losing many a mini-masterpiece along the way.
Then she began drawing on balsa wood, treated with Gesso to make unique pins or “wearable works of art” that had faces or children or any number of interesting critters on them. Soon she was drawing (still with her magic pen) scenes and designs on furniture, plates, her own sculptures, picture frames, wooden boxes, clothing, walls etc. until one day she decided to use her fanciful images to make cards and bookmarks. Her love for reading sparked her desire to use the money she made selling them to support a children’s literacy program.
And that is what she is now doing with Mind Magic™, Inc. 50% of all MALKI artwork goes to support Mind Magic™ a language arts program to enhance reading which will place volunteers in public schools to help children discover a love for the written word, while inspiring them to learn and fueling their desire to succeed in school, as they become creative thinkers and problem solvers. Each card and bookmark is hand printed and cut and, if you choose, hand colored making it truly one of a kind.
Besides the designs for cards and bookmarks, MALKI has created characters for the read aloud book Angelle And The Magic Pen, illustrated Along The Road, a beginners meditation workbook, as well as various other gifts, all of which will soon be available for purchase on line at the mindmagicpresents.com web page.
Ever in awe of the world around her, the artist is never without her pen and paper and expresses her impressions through the images she creates: her own MIND MAGIC. In the spirit of the Mind Magic™ program she supports, MALKI’s goal is to inspire, amuse, affirm, and embrace each day with DeLight: Life Is A Celebration! |
